Free Printable Sink or Float: AHG Resource
Hello,
We hope you and your loved ones are safe and well during these trying times. As so many of you, we have had our AHG and Trail Life USA meetings canceled for the time being and miss them greatly. Even so we have been keeping busy with homeschooling and have been trying to be more proactive with badge work.
In order to stay organized, we have been keeping projects and pictures in a three-ring binder. To add to this, I made a free printable chore chart to help keep track of the items used for the Sink or Float experiment. I added two blank lines and let our kids raid the pantry to include their own items. Their final choice was to add peanuts and pinto beans.
Kitchen Scientist: Sink or Float requirement 7
This was such a great activity that both my 6th grade daughter and 2nd grade son had fun doing together. It was fairly simple to do as we had almost all items on hand and the directions were easy to follow.
I do recommend:
- Use a clear container or cup so that your child can see the liquids separating and the items sinking or floating.
- Add food coloring to the water! This can really help them distinguish between the liquids, especially of your dish soap/liquid detergent is also clear.
- You can substitute items! For example, we used dates since we were out of raisins. Croutons could be toast, sugar could be salt, etc.
We hope your American Heritage Girl also enjoys using this free printable to record their outcome of the Sink or float experiment for this badge.
